About Dakila

Dakila Chow uses ink, acrylics, and mixed media to explore geometric forms and visual patterns in the natural world. As a former chief research scientist for the Philippine government's nationwide hazard mapping initiative, she used high-resolution satellite imageries to map out areas vulnerable to floods, landslides, debris flows, and other natural hazards. Her work gave her first-hand knowledge of nature’s destructive power and made her appreciate the creative spirit of those who adapt and rise to meet these challenges.

Inspired by the forces that sculpt both landscapes and human emotions, Dakila’s paintings at times evoke contour lines, as well as bodies of water and terrain as seen from high above the Earth. Her paintings reflect on the sublime beauty of nature and of the serene beauty that can be found in everyday life.
